The Island Batik Ambassador Challenge for March 2023 is to make anything that you want using any Island Batik fabrics. I decided to use the Sea Cookies pre-cuts, which were designed by Kate Colleran with the ocean and beach in mind. Sea Cookies helps us to think of warmer weather that is on its way.
But what to make? A Mondo bag! I used Shell (Island Batik) for the lining and I saved some strips for the handles. I used 50 wt. Aurifil #4660, a pretty variegated pink thread.
Of course, you will need the Mondo bag grid interfacing and pattern. The 2-1/2" strips are cut up into 2-1/2" squares and randomly placed onto the grid interfacing, then pressed into place. You will also need a fusible fleece to press your lining onto.
Making and sewing the Mondo bag does take a bit of time, but it turns out beautiful and is great for 2-1/2" strips or 5" squares. I am making some of these bags for a charity auction.
This large bag is great for trips to the farmer's market, the beach or every day use.
I know you love these Sea Cookies pre-cuts and bolts will be available in the Spring. You can purchase Sea Cookies pre-cuts right now at: Hancock's of Paducah, Wooden Spools, My Favorite Quilt Store and Jellyrollfabric.net.
Patterns by Annie also has two placemat patterns "Easy Flip and Sew Placemats" and "Set a Pretty Table" that would work with strip sets, too.
Nice bag. Love this collection.
Wow, I absolutely love your big, bright, happy bag. These fabrics are just perfect.

I love that bag! Those colours really pop and certainly say "Summer" to me. Great job! Elita@BusyNeedleQuilting
Such a useful bag and great use of your fabrics. Loved your tutorial.
There were several of my quilting retreat friends that made these bags. I made mine from the IB jelly roll my husband gave me for Valentines Day! It turned out so beautiful❣️
