Meadow Hues Blog Hop and March It's All Up To You

Writer: SusanSusan

As an Island Batik Brand Ambassador, I receive fabrics and sewing notions from Island Batik and their corporate sponsors (Oliso, Schmetz, Aurifil, Deb Tucker's Studio 180 Designs, Hobbs Batting, Accu-Quilt, Funky Friends Factory, By-Annie Patterns and Lumin Fabrics.)

I am back with more Meadow Hues gorgeousness. I am participating in the Meadow Hues Blog Hop with Claudia Porter of Create with Claudia. Meadow Hues is a Signature Line designed by Jerry Khiev for Claudia Porter. March is also a month where the Island Batik Ambassadors can make what they want!

I decided to make a pair of sneakers, a baseball cap and a By-Annie bag. I am ready to hit the road in style. I used Aurifil 50 weight thread, Schmetz needles and my mini Oliso iron for my three projects.

First up, I took another class with Joan Radell of Bucklebee Bags. Her sneaker classes are called "Happy Feet." I thoroughly enjoy taking classes with Joan; she has a great sense of humor and she is very helpful. If you can't take a class with her, you can order a sneaker kit from her website; it comes with the sneaker soles and cushion, waxed thread, needle, thimble, awl, the pattern and a book, written by Joan). You will need to quilt your fat quarter bundle and a smaller piece for the "tongue" and cut your binding on the bias. In class, Joan has all of the tools that you will need. If you make the sneakers on your own, you will need some additional tools and eyelets. There are three sneaker heights that you can choose from and you wil need to cut your pattern down to the appropriate height. Don't forget your coordinating shoelaces!

Second, I made the Quilted Trucker Hat by Rose City Originals and Chris Marchini. You can purchase the digital pattern for $10.00 on-line at his shop. Chris has teamed up with AccuQuilt and now there is a die for the trucker hat. As with the sneakers, you will need to do a small amount of quilting beforehand. You will make a 10" by 10" design and quilt it with a foam stabilizer. An ultra-firm stabilizer will be needed for the cap part.

There is a lining for the inside of the hat, too. I used hook and loop for my back straps.

For my final ensemble item, I made the On the Go 2.0 bag by By-Annie.com.

I quilted by fabric and By-Annie Soft and Stable on my Bernina 990, using Aurifil 50 weight thread. Like other By-Annie patterns, you have detailed instructions and you will be preparing different parts of your bag, so that you can assemble everything together. Annie also has videos to watch for this pattern.

I like to hand sew the binding down.

I hope you enjoyed the projects I chose to make for March.
