As an Island Batik Brand Ambassador, I receive fabrics and sewing notions from Island Batik and their corporate sponsors (Oliso, Schmetz, Aurifil, Deb Tucker's Studio 180 Designs, Hobbs Batting, Accu-Quilt, Funky Friends Factory, By-Annie and Lumin Fabrics).

February is a blog hop month for the Island Batik Ambassadors. We were each given a Deb Tucker tool to use and a beautiful bundle of batiks. I was the lucky recipient of Meadow Hues, a signature collection designed by Jerry Khiev for Claudia Porter of Create with Claudia. This bundle of gorgeousness contains lavenders, purples, spring greeens, violets and peachy red roses. The colors go together so well and I find the collection very calming and soothing. It's a great bundle to use for baby quilts!

The Deb Tucker Studio 180 Designs tool that I received was the Split Rects tool. I also purchased the Split Rects Bonus Units Technique Sheet. I saw the block that I wanted to use in the technique sheet; it was called the Elongated Version and each block consisted of three pieces - A, B and C.

I then went to Electric Quilt 8 and designed a runner. I drew a block that resembled the Elongated Version and I used the largest size on the ruler, which was 4" x 8". I flipped and rotated the blocks. The size that I originally designed was 36" x 56". I wanted to stick to my EQ8 design and while I was making my runner, I realized that I would not have enough of one of the peachy red rose fabrics. So I made the runner 28" x 48". On a side note, I used Meadow Hues for my March project as well and that is why I did not have enough of the peachy red rose fabric for my runner. I love Meadow Hues so much and I am trying to see how many projects I can make out of my bundle!

It was slow going at first, because I was trying to stick to my color chart and I was changing up colors for each row. First, you assemble units A and B, then you use your tool to trim the diagonal line. Next, you sew on unit C. Then you trim up your block.

Sewing the rows together, went very quickly.

I assembled my runner for quilting on my Bernina 990. I used Hobbs Tuscany Collection 100% Unbleached Cotton for the batting and Island Batik Pomegranate for the backing. I used Schmetz Microtex 70/10 needles and my Oliso iron.

I used Aurifil #2605 for piecing and #3840, 4250, 2425 and 3320 for quilting. I stitched lines vertically, horizontally and diagonally.

I really do like this block and I think one day, I would like to use it again for a larger quilt. I like Deb Tucker's tools, because she has videos, instruction sheets, technique sheets, certified instructors and you get to trim your blocks to the right size so easily.
Don't forget to check out the other Island Batik Ambassadors and their February projects! Also, remember to head on over to the Lumin Fabrics Island Batik blog and enter to win your own Meadow Hues bundle of gorgeousness. Stay tuned for my March projects using this collection. On February 28th, don't forget to vote for your favorite Island Batik Ambassador project for February! (Pick mine, pretty please 😊).

Beautiful, Susan!
Beautiful Susan. I love the design you used and I really love the fabrics. They are my favorite color combination.
Beautiful, it would look great hanging on a wall in that room.
